YGTCS Safeguarding Processes
- There are termly assemblies held by the Safeguarding Leads to raise awareness, and there are posters in every classroom telling pupils who the Safeguarding Leads are, although pupils are encouraged to speak to any member of staff they feel comfortable with if they have a concern.
- All concerns raised by pupils and staff are logged through a system called ‘My Concern’. This is used in all schools across Blaenau Gwent.
- All staff undergo annual safeguarding training at the start of each academic year, or as soon as they join the school if this is at a later point in the year.
- All staff are required to undertake the statutory Level 1 VAWDASV (Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence) training every three years.
- Additionally, all staff undertake statutory Level 1 training on PREVENT. This is a national awareness programme. The aim of Prevent is to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism, and there are clear guidelines that must be followed should anyone suspect any radicalisation or engagement in terrorism.
- The Safeguarding Leads have all undertaken further training in line with their role, considering aspects such as addiction, gambling, child exploitation, county lines and additional training with VAWDASV and PREVENT.
- The school’s Safeguarding Policy (see below) is fully in line with the LA Policy and is subject to annual Governor review.

Attendance
Pupils should arrive on site by 8.20am, ready for the 8.30am bell.
If your child is absent, please notify the school by 9am.
Our attendance officer will send a text if your child has not arrived to school, and we have not had notification of their absence – please respond with the reason for absence.
Registers are completed every lesson. If a pupil is marked absent and not accounted for, a call will be made home to ensure that pupil is safe
Any late arrivals should enter the building through the Quad entrance, and sign in at Pupil Services.
Any pupils leaving site during the day for medical appointments etc, must be collected from main reception. Pupils will be asked to sign out at Pupil Services, and if returning, sign back in – This is to ensure our registers are correct at all times, in case of an emergency.
Grounds
Where possible, please could pupils be dropped off and collected outside the main gates. If cars are brought onto site, please can drivers be mindful of others, and pull in where you do not obstruct car park entrances, or stop the flow of traffic.
