School Council

The founding principle of our School Council is Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Article 12 states that is the right of all children to have their voices heard and to be consulted on all matters that impact them. The process of being involved in the School Council also allows our students to develop their personalities, talents and abilities in line with Article 29 of the UNCRC. Many of our past School Council members have participated in local politics alongside their studies and some have gone on to study politics further after Year 11.

Our School Council are elected democratically at the start of each year after the candidates have presented their manifestos to their year groups. Each form class has two representatives and each year group also has two representatives. The Year Representatives comprise the School Council.

Our School Council are actively involved in all aspects of school life at Ysgol Gyfun Tredegar Comprehensive School and pupil voice and pupil action is integral to ensuring that as a school community we are working together for success. The School Council meet once a half term after all of the form class meetings have been held and Mr Llewellyn then feeds back to the Senior Leadership Team.
